The frontier of heavy-lift autonomy.
EyeX’s vision layer grew out of years of frontier aerial and robotics R&D — award-recognised concepts for lifting, moving and rescuing where nothing else can reach. Scroll through the projects and the intellectual property behind them.
GroundUnit-1 — Autonomous Dozer
A tracked robotic dozer built to grade, push and clear ground where putting a person in a cab is slow, costly or dangerous. Its undercarriage slides between a narrow transport stance and a wide working stance, all the heavy mass rides a slim centre spine, and an automotive-grade 350 V battery-electric powertrain drives it silently. EyeX vision and Starlink keep it working — teleoperated or autonomous — far past the last road.
- Variable-gauge undercarriage (1.25–1.85 m)
- Battery-electric 350 V powertrain
- Vision-guided + Starlink teleoperation
- Self-docking auto-charge
Albatross — Maritime Recon Drone
A cable-tethered reconnaissance drone that launches from a vessel’s bow and flies watch overhead — switching between fixed-wing cruise and multirotor hover. A 360° camera and top-down view give the ship constant overwatch and early warning of incoming threats, most of all through narrow straits and chokepoints. Guarded by a protective cage, it descends and lands itself back on deck through computer vision as it nears port.
- Cable-tethered to a bow-mounted station
- Fixed-wing cruise + multirotor hover
- 360° vision & top-down overwatch
- Vision-guided auto-return & deck landing
Sandpiper — Autonomous Beach Cleaner
A tracked shore robot that clears washed-up algae, seaweed and litter off the sand and leaves the beach clean behind it. A perforated sieve-scoop lets sand fall straight back through the bucket and keeps only what shouldn’t be there, while a companion tracked hopper rolls alongside to haul the load away. EyeX vision tells organic drift from plastic and works the whole stretch on its own.
- Perforated sieve-scoop — sand falls, debris stays
- Companion tracked hopper runs alongside
- Vision sorts seaweed from litter
- Battery-electric & fully autonomous
VHL — Vertical Hybrid Lifter
A heavy-lift VTOL aircraft that pairs electric rotors with a turbine generator — endurance and payload far beyond battery-only drones. Conceived and prototyped by a Columbia University team, VHL reached the national finals of the 2016 Columbia University Technology Challenge as one of the most advanced heavy-lift concepts of its time.
- Hybrid electric–turbine powertrain
- Vertical take-off & landing
- High payload, long endurance
- Autonomous flight envelope
Robotic Tug — TugBot
A swarm of compact robotic tugs that magnetically dock to a vessel from several sides and act as distributed thrust. Together they amplify a ship’s power and maneuverability — steering it through narrow channels, tight harbours and shallow inlets that conventional tugs struggle to reach.
- Magnetic multi-point docking (4–5 units)
- Distributed robotic propulsion
- Precision maneuvering in narrow channels
- Electric & fully autonomous
Emergency Rescue Drones
Heavy-lift drones that carry people out of places crews cannot reach in time — wildfire fronts, mountain terrain and dense tropical canopy, where landing a helicopter first means cutting a path. The same lift and vision stack behind EyeX, aimed at getting a person to safety in minutes, not hours.
- Human-rated payload
- Autonomous obstacle & power-line avoidance
- Vision-guided placement
- Reaches where helicopters can’t land
Frontier IP, ready to build
These concepts — sketches, designs and provisional patents — are protected intellectual property. EyeX develops, partners on and licenses frontier aerial and robotics IP for the missions that matter most.
